Trail pagesProjects → Spidertools

Spidertools Logo Spidertools is a project of mine. The goal is a lightweight, simple content management system that can be used for a variety of different purposes without being too complicated and general. Simple should be interpreted as being easy to use, as there is nothing simple about the underlying software. Before it's released (open-source) I will make certain it's complete, competent, secure and user-friendly.

Why would anyone go for this instead of wordpress or any of all the other established publishing tools out there? Well, I don't know, perhaps nobody will. In the end, I'm doing this to learn and for the love of coding.

But Spidertools is not another blog software, although it can be used as one. It offers a complete set of tools for managing a site including access controlled sections for pages, categories for posts, modules for handling media, comments, user profiles and an extensive settings module which offers complete control over content and security. As a design requirement, the UI stays simple and user friendly.

Spidertools is coded in PHP and is using MySQL. I've planned to look into SQLite as an alternative database solution. I'm a big fan of w3c and take great care in sticking to the standards set by them.

I figured the best way to thoroughly test and develop spidertools was to use it myself. I use it as back-end for this site and will keep a development blog for personal documentation of my progress as well as keeping anyone interested in the process up to date.
